Who would have thought that the fate of the great and mighty Danube, a river that flows through ten European countries and on whose banks around 80 million people live, depends on its tributaries, tiny backwaters and ponds. Such is the Semenječa pond, on the triple border of Serbia, Croatia and Hungary. Because of a bar like this one, the Danube is called the Amazon of Europe. Hidden in the forests, far from the main course of the river, the ponds are the basis of the unique ecosystem of the Danube. They are home to hundreds of plant and animal species. Unfortunately, the ponds need our help.
